Babcock Community Care Centre News – August 27, 2025

Residents gathered in the activity area for the monthly birthday party. They enjoyed some delicious birthday cake along with ice cream and beverages. Birthday wishes are extended to Kay Cowan who is celebrating her special day in August. Randy Grey provided the entertainment at the party.

Residents had a great time, as well as a family member, during a new exercise program. It was a combination of Yoga and Pilates. Targeted muscle movements promoted relaxation, with special breathing techniques. Calming music was played in the background. Four teams challenged each other in a game of Foosball. Everyone looks forward to the Tuck Cart coming their way down the halls. It holds a variety of items as well as special snacks and treats.

The Fun Mystery Social was a great hit with everyone. They ended the program with an episode of “Mark’s Epic Journey around the World.” Bingo was held three times over the week with several lucky winners. Toonie Bingo and Big Buck Bingo is their favourite. Presently the Bingo prizes are a large variety of chocolate bars. The Civic holiday party was a huge success. The dining room tables were decorated. A party cake along with fresh fruit, including peaches and fresh strawberries, was served. Everyone had a great time. Residents watched a Walt Disney movie. Popcorn and refreshments were served during the viewing.

One-on-one visits are appreciated by residents. They have their eye glasses cleaned, bedside tables are reorganized for them, and others just like to sit and visit. Slushies were served on the patio. Residents had a choice of strawberry banana or cherry. Craft time had residents painting golf balls. Eric Lunn visited and entertained residents with his musical program. Pet therapy is very popular with all the pet lovers. They were visited by Sybil and Remy, as well as Tigger and Wendy.

The reading and conversation program had a good crowd. Many wanted to catch up on the daily news provided through the local newspapers. World news is always discussed. Manicures were provided to several residents wanting their nails done. The weather has been more enjoyable for the roll and stroll program in place. Residents are able, with the help of staff, to venture around the village streets and to check out the progress on the new long-term care building scheduled to open in the Spring. Drumfit provides great exercise for residents as they hit the drums trying to keep up to the beat of the music playing in the background. Music Connections visited and Amy brought along a variety of musical instruments for residents. They had a great time singing as well.

The Mad Science activity was a huge hit. Residents watched the experiments and compared them to the ones they watched on Tik Tok. The family council meeting was held in the activity area. The Nu-Step cross-trainers are always busy with residents using them to exercise. Catholic Communion was given to residents of the Catholic faith. We appreciate the volunteers who visit on a regular basis.

The Food Committee held their regular meeting in the activity area and the Residents Council meeting followed. Wii Bowling is great fun for residents. The Play with Clay activity was a real squishy good time for residents. Wayne Gauden entertained residents with his guitar playing and singing. Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of the late Allan Woolner.
